I wish you all a happy Eid !

#147
Song: Muze Mil Gaya Bahaana Teri, Zid? Ka
Kaisi Khushi Le Ke Aaya Chaand, Id Ka

        Film: Barsat Ki Raat (1960)
        Music: Roshan
        Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianwi
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Bharat Bhushan, Madhubala, ?, ?

This film is remembered even today, for it's music and lyrics.
Particularly the quwwali sung by Manna De, Mohammad Rafi, Sudha
Malhotra, S D Batish and Asha Bhonsle -- Ye Ishq, Ishq Hai -- is
arguably the best in films till date. When- ever someone writes
about either Roshan or quwwalis this one will mandate a full
chapter on itself.

We also have this Gaud? Malhaar based Suman Kalyanpur-Kamal Barot
duet

        Garajat Barasat Saawan Aayo Re

I am amazed, how precise Roshan was to gauge one's ability to
sing different things! Took best out from Rajkumari, Lata,
Shamshad, Geeta, Asha, Suman and here even Kamal Barot -- who
sings at very high pitch and hence may sound shrilling and
irritating at times to ears. On a related note, other composers
who used her voice effectively were S N Tripathi and (surprise,
surprise --) Kalyanji Anandji. Here her singing 'Teer Samaan'
with little alaap (I must say she shows exceptionally good
control over notes and blending voice as needed) at her natural
high pitch yields great effect.

The rest of the songs were "standard" stuff. I must admit though,
that I like Rafi version of Zindagi Bhar Nahi Bhulegi. His
delivery of entire song is superb. I also enjoy today's ATMJH, as
well.
