#352

        Song:   Aankh khulte hi tum
                Chhup gaye ho kahaan
                Tum abhi the yahaan
                Tum abhi the yahaan

        Film:   Munimjee (1955)
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
        Music:  S D Burman
        Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi
        *ing:   Dev Anand, Nalini Jaywant

So just where was this song all this time ? It took  me  over  15
years to discover this wonderful piece of music (and its not even
an obscure soundtrack) - just found it  over  last  weekend.  And
I've probably played it about 137 times since.

Since its spell hasn't passed yet, I am  prone  to  wax  eloquent
about  this  sublime  melody  ;  this is a song that emphatically
proclaims itself as an SDB creation - a charming wavelike motion,
a  sweet-beyond-words  tune  and  to  top it all, the Great Lady.
Nalini Jaywant doesn't hurt either - this  song,  I  feel  is  an
example of perfect musical chemistry.

And no Sahir post can possibly be complete without a  mention  of
his  immaculate poetry ; its delicate nuances and soft subtleties
can always be relied on for a  couple  of  gulps  :
Tum judaa hoke bhi meri raahon mein ho
Garm ashkon mein ho sard aahon mein ho
        Chaandni mein jhalakti hain parchhaiyaan
Tum abhi the yahaan tum abhi the yahaan

There's only one problem- the darn thing gets over in just  under
3 minutes.

There is another lovely Lata solo on this soundtrack, one which I
*had*  heard before :
        Ek nazar bas ek nazar
        Jaan-e-tamanna dekh idhar
