#362

Song:   Zaraa tham jaa too ae saawan
Mere saajan ko aane de, aane de
                Mere roothe piya ko phir
Meri bigdi banaane de, banaane de

        Film:   Jogan (1950)
        Singer: Geeta Roy
        Music:  Bulo C Rani
        Lyrics: Himmat Roy Sharma
        *ing:   Nargis, Dilip Kumar

I'd like to return to my Geeta tribute for a couple of posts; she
got unintentionally sidelined by Sajjad :-) Sorry about that.

Jogan is the first soundtrack that springs to mind when  thinking
of Geeta, a splendid offering from the ephemeral Bulo C Rani. And
it's always hard  to  pick  a  single  song  from  its  12-strong
treasure-chest.

I picked one. I've been humming this song all morning;  a sweetly
tuned,  deliberately affectionate melody, comparable in spirit to
Mirabai's 'madhura-bhakti' bhajans that abound  this  soundtrack.
Geeta  sounds  disarmingly  dulcet in her early voice, and emotes
the innocence in the lyrics very palpably. An eminently  hummable
tune.
