Song:   Ulajh gaye do naina dekho
                Ulajh gaye do naina

        Film:   Ek Saal (1957)
        Singer: Hemant Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar
        Music:  Ravi
        Lyrics: Ravi
        *ing:   Madhubala, Ashok Kumar

With Neha and Anil paying respective  tributes  to  Hemantda  and
Lata  in the Hemantda and LATAnjali series, thought I'd do my bit
on ATMJH with a concurrent tribute to both of these. Besides,  it
gives  me the opportunity of posting one of my all-time favorites
:-)

SO, in celebration of  Lata-bai's  69th  birthday  today  and  in
memory  of  Hemantda on his 9th death anniversary (that passed on
Sept. 26), a sublime duet both penned and composed by  Ravi,  one
that  I like even more than the obviously more popular Lata/Talat
tandem ("Sub kuchh lutaa ke hosh mei.n aaye to kya kiya").

Given it's soulful  grooves,  this  could  well  pass  off  as  a
devotional  piece.  Hemantda  excels in his delicate rendition of
this slow, haunting tune, as does Lata. I can't describe it,  but
this  is  a  song  that virtually coerces you to surrender to its
soft, intimate strains and  the  almost  hallowed  ambience  they
create. A casual listening of this song is not possible; you have
to be a part of it. A beautifully co-ordinated duet.

I think I'll spend the  next  few  posts  on  some  Lata/Hemantda
classics.
