#444

Song: tu na aaya aur hone lagii shaam re
sanwariya main khadi rahuun ke chali jaauun re

     Film: Aasha (1957)
     Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
     Music: C Ramchandra
     Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan
     *ing: Kishore Kumar, Vyjayantimala?

Continuing on the Lata momentum a bit.

This delightful cut from a soundtrack most popularized by KK's "ina
mina dika" carries all the vitality and exuberance of the archetypal CR
tune, most of all the highly distinguishable, energetic and volatile
beat. The song reminds you, at various points, of a lot of CR's other
songs from Azaad ("jaari jaari o kaari badariya"), Albela ("bholi
soorat dil ke khote"), Yasmeen ("dil unko dhoondhta hai"), Parchhain
("chanda ki chhaon mein") and even other songs from the same movie,
like "chal chal re kanhaai chhalia".

Somehow this sounds like it is picturized on a stage performance
(haven't seen the movie, so this is a surmise). Simplistic,
conversational lyrics always enhance the appeal of a song, as they do
in this one :

dekhuun kab tak piya main teri raah re
meri tak tak ke haari nigaah re
raat hai aa rahi main to ghabra rahi
kya karuun ke hai door mera gaanv re
sanwariya main khadi rahoon ke chali jaauun re

..etc. And the pace rises with the "sanwariya sanwariya" as the song
draws to a close, nicely conveying her restless consternation at
the "sanwariya"'s no-show.

A couple of songs from the movie (in addition to the obvious ones) are
worth noting- the Asha lorie "sojaa re chanda sojaa, chandaniya araj
karey" and Lata's "zaraa ruk ruk ke zaraa thham thham ke, main to dwaar
chali sakhi baalam ke".

The soundtrack of Aasha was released by EMI (#120420) along with CR's
Devta, another lovely soundtrack which I shall be visiting shortly. A
recommended purchase for CR/Lata/Asha/.. fans.
